Summer Prep Academy

June 22 – July 17, 2009

Welcome to the Mercy “SPA” – the Summer Prep Academy! Mercy’s Summer Prep Academy offers three summer programs that include a variety of courses for students of different ages. Our comprehensive offerings include academic and non-academic courses. Registration for the Summer Prep Academy opens on February 15, 2009. The Summer High Program

The Summer High Program offers courses for 9th – 12th graders who wish to make-up, review, or preview a regular high school academic course. This program also offers dance and driver’s education.

The “STEP” Program

The Summer Transition & Enrichment Program (“STEP”) is a unique summer program designed to offer preparatory course work for students entering high school in the fall of 2009. Course work integrates topics in math (math fundamentals, pre-Algebra) and English (spelling, vocabulary, grammar, writing skills, reading comprehension) along with study skills. Students will gain effective note-taking, time management, test preparation skills and will learn helpful strategies for academic success.

The Summer Kids Program

The Summer Kids Program presents a theme based curriculum meant to offer enrichment opportunities for students entering 6th, 7th or 8th grade in the fall of 2009. Program topics/elements include: history, science, literature, math, social science, performing arts, physical education, and weekly off-campus adventures. This program is not designed for remediation.

Skipper Summer Camp

The Skipper Summer Camp is a unique two week program for young girls entering 1st through 5th grade. The camp is designed to teach young girls the importance of a positive self image and attitude as well as the value of friendship through art, cooking, games, singing, dancing and much more. This program only runs from June 15-June26, 2009.

Eco Summer Program

The Eco Summer Program offers a hands-on ecological, outdoor learning experience for students entering 6th, 7th or 8th grade in the fall of 2009. This two week program provides a greater understanding of the San Francisco Bay bioregion. Through various activities designed to highlight local geography, geology and native cultures, this is a great opportunity to explore our world in a classroom without walls. This program is not designed for remediation.

Online

Sponsored by the Network for Mercy Education, the Summer Prep Academy offers a variety of online academic courses. Five units of credit are awarded for each online course. For more information please visit www.emercyed.org

Summer Art Workshops

The Summer Art Workshops are only open to Mercy students accepted into the Women in the Arts program or any Advanced Placement Studio Arts course for the 2009-2010 school year.

Summer Cooking Class

Registration for Cooking Class - Session I, June 15-26, is open until Friday, June 12.

Registration for Cooking Class - Session II, July 6-17, is open until Wednesday, July 1.

 

The Teen Cooks classes are for students 13-18 years old. The class will consist of brief lectures/demonstrations, preparing and cooking the food, and eating the meals. The class will focus on a variety of international foods. Students will also learn about safety, sanitation, and the proper way to use a knife. Students will enjoy a tasty meal at the end of each class as well as copies of all recipes.

Dance

There are two options available this summer for students who are interested in dance:

 

The Summer Dance program is designed for beginner/advanced beginner dance students. This program offers instruction in four dance disciplines: ballet, hip-hop, jazz and tap dance. Please click on the schedule link below for the breakdown.

Sports Camps

We offer fun and instructional camps for Basketball and Volleyball during the summer. The camps are run by the Varsity Basketball and Varsity Volleyball coaching staffs. Both camps are held on campus in our beautiful Catherine McAuley Pavillion.

The Basketball Camp is open to girls entering the 4th through 8th grades and is held from July 13th - July 24th. Deadline to register is June 20th!

The Volleyball Camp is open to girls entering the 6th though 10th grades and is held July 6th - July 10th. Deadline to register is June 22nd!
